Preliminary Task

Using DTP and an image manipulation program,produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in a medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. additionally candidates must produce a DTP mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program.

Initial Ideas

My magazine will be aimed at students aged 16 and above. I want to make it look professional and i aim to achieve this by using a minimal amount of bright colours and only having one main focus in the front of my magazine. On the front cover i want to have a picture of a student and have writing around the edges. The writing will be in a simple but big so that is is visible but also doesn't draw to much attention away from the Picture.

Research

For this magazine front cover they have used a medium long shot so that you can see the expression on the subjects face but you can also see what is in the background which is good for a back to school magazine as it shows a desk and school equipment. For the title of the magazine they have used a very basic font which is clear and simple to make the cover look professional. However around the edge of the picture they have used different fonts which makes it more appealing to school children. The cover is colourful so that it is not dull however the colours aren't to bright so that they don't look childish.

On the front of this cover they use contrasting colours to draw the reader in. The bold red on the green background make the writing stand out more and therefore makes the message clearer. They have used a medium so that you can see that the subject is wearing a uniform but you can also see the emotion on her face. They have shown some background on the picture however it is not fully focused which adds depth to the magazine but doesn't draw attention away from the subject. The title is in a bog font along the top of the cover to make it stand out amongst the rest of the writing.

The magazine has a simple design with only black and white to make it look more professional.  The minimalist design of this cover makes it easy to understand as there is not much going on on the page.  It has a variety of different fonts to make it more interesting. The simplicity of the background makes the different fonts stand out more and makes the design more fun and more appealing to school students. The texture of the picture adds to the over all effect of the magazine.
