Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When I was creating my front cover for the preliminary task, I didn't know how to use photoshop. However since then I have watched youtube tutorials and asked people at school how to use certain tools.When I was editing my front cover for my back to school magazine I barely used photoshop as I didn't know how to use it. I started to watch youtube videos for tutorials and tips on how to use the basic tools. This helped me to develop the skills that I need to be able to improve me editing skills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekOH5ESLAPs This is one of the videos that I watched to help me learn how to use editing software. After I had started to develop my understanding of the basic tools, I wanted to make more progress and further my skills by learning how to use the more complicated tools and how to develop my pictures in a more professional way. Photoshop is the main skill which I wanted to develop for my media course as I think that it can make so much difference to my pictures and can improve any picture.

When i was creating my front cover, contents page and double page spread for my music magazine, I showcased the skills that I have learnt on photoshop. I learned how to layer different photos on top of each other and i also learned how to edit the background of photos. I showed this skill when i was creating my contents page as I layered a photograph that I had taken of a wall and layered it with a photograph that I had taken of my model. I also learned how to remove the background of a photo, I used this skill when I was editing the photograph for my double page spread. When I was creating it, I removed the original background fro the image and replaced it with a different coloured background that I had created. Another skill that I learned during the time between working on preliminary task and my music magazine was to put a glow around an person/object. When I was deciding how I wanted my magazine to look, I was practicing with some ideas. One of my ideas was to put a glow around my model to add definition to the picture and to make her stand out even more. I didn't use this idea for my finished product however, it is still a useful skill to have learned.

Another skill that I wanted to develop using different programmes and websites to present my work. During the preliminary task, I mainly used the programme Pages to showcase my work. However now I have learnt how to make presentations using websites such as Prezi and Sway. By using different sites and programmes to present my work, it has allowed me to improve my ICT skills and also made my work look more interesting. By using a variety, it shows that I have learnt new skills.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience by creating a questionnaire for people to fill in so that I can make my magazine how the audience would like to see it.
